Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has surprised his teammates by arriving at training looking unfamiliar and younger.

It neatly encapsulated Martial’s experience over the last twelve months when he has spent more time watching rather than being involved in the main action.

The French striker was omitted from Didier Deschamp’s squad for this summer’s tournament after picking up a knee injury while on international duty in March.

This brought to an end a miserable season for Martial in which he presided over his worst ever goals return for United with just seven.

This was in stark contrast to the previous 2019-20 season when he had finished with his best-ever total of 23.

The Frenchman’s new look was confirmed via Man United’s social media accounts, which posted snaps of Martial’s new look. The 25-year-old has done away with a fader in a favour of a very short and almost bold hairdo.

Manchester United reacted with a tweet.

Meanwhile, Martial is hoping to deliver a better season after a lackluster 2020/21, and it’s no surprise to find speculations of an exit before the transfer window shuts at the end of August.

The attacker could make an appearance in United’s final pre-season friendly against Everton at Old Trafford this weekend.

There has naturally been some degree of frustration at United that Martial has failed to build on his form from the 2019-20 season, and also his repeated failure to respond to any competition for his place.

Signed for a fee climbing to £58 million in 2015, Martial has still managed to produce many fine moments over the last six years, but for a player who turns 26 at the end of the year, his career should not have stalled like this.

It is why United could be open to selling Martial if they receive an attractive offer during the summer.
