Che Adams aims cheeky dig at Manchester United midfielder Fred as he finds out Southampton goal was given as own goal by Brazilian
Che Adams couldn’t resist a cheeky poke at Manchester United midfielder Fred following Southampton’s draw with the Red Devils at St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.
The Scotland striker found the net in the first half, however, the goal was taken off him and credited as an own goal by the Brazilian.
Following the match, a reporter told him that it was Fred’s goal and not his. However, Adams came up with the perfect reply.
“I think they gave him (Fred) the goal because he doesn’t score many, I’ll take it [deflection] as an assist,” Adams quipped.
“We dug in well and got the point. They are a top, top team but we battled well and got a deserved point.”
Whilst funny, Adams’ comment is also extremely accurate as Fred’s Manchester United goal record is far from prolific.
Since signing for the Red Devils in 2018 he has played 123 times for the club.
In that time he has only culminated five goals in all competitions and just seven assists.
For someone who cost £50 million he has not been able to produce as many numbers as some may have expected. His performances over the last three years have divided Man United fans.
Fortunately for Fred, his own goal didn’t cost his side the match as Mason’s Greenwood’s second-half strike saw it finish 1-1.
