La’el Collins was given a five games suspension for violating NFL’s substance abuse in what some would term “controversial”. The sanction given to the 28-year old was made known by the NFL league on Friday.

As per multiple reports, the picture of the whole situation is yet to be clear owing to the fact that many sources claimed that he did not fail any test. However, his lawyers have continued to appeal sitting that even if Collins violated substance policy, his sanctions should be to pay fines instead of suspension.

If Collins’ lawyers’ appeals fail, the Dallas Cowboys starting right will only return to action on 18th October when they face New England Patriots.
The Cowboys coach, Mike McCarthy on Friday’s news conference did not talk much about the situation. He admitted that the NFL’s decision looks awkward and from the looks of things, they were caught off guard. It’s either the team are investigating more on the matter or they are trying to shy away from it.

Collins’ record is quite impressive with the Cowboys player starting a whooping 62 of the 63 games he played for the team since 2015 and he either started as a right tackle or left guard. He however missed 13 games in 2016 due to a toe injury and didn’t play last season because of hip surgery.

Cowboys with Collins needs series of adjustments in their team. His potential replacements are Ty Nsekhe and Terence Steele. Both are great players who served as backup offensive tackles and started 14 games last year against the Buccaneers. Either of the two may replace Collins if the team opts for a tackle-for-tackle swap.
