Solskjaer is set to unleash Ronaldo as new main striker

Having taken a Day 2 test on Saturday, as well as a Day 5 test on Tuesday, Ronaldo was able to conclude his quarantine period as part of the NHS’ test to release scheme, allowing him to join up with United.

Now out from isolation he met with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was a team-mate during his first spell at Old Trafford, and they had a conversation in the manager’s office.

Ronaldo wasted no time in getting down to work either as he joined his team-mates for Tuesday’s training session.

He sealed his sensational switch to the Red Devils in a £19.8million move from Juventus in the summer, 12 years on from his departure for Spanish giants Real Madrid.

There is hope among supporters that Ronaldo can make his homecoming debut at Old Trafford this weekend on Saturday.

If he doesn’t get his first start back at United on Saturday then he is expected to lead the line in the Champions League next Tuesday away to Young Boys.

In a bid to get down to work at United following his sensational summer move, Ronaldo was given early release from international duty with Portugal, days after breaking Ali Daei’s international goals record.

The striker is suspended for Thursday’s match against Azerbaijan and so was allowed to travel to England to begin quarantining.
