New England Revolution vs Columbus Crew – Team news, Lineups, Prediction

On Saturday, the Columbus Crew plays their 26th game of the season. In 2021, the Black & Gold will visit Foxborough for the second time to face the New England Revolution, which currently holds the Supporters’ Shield. In the previous two years, the two clubs have played in a number of significant matchups, including the 2020 Eastern Conference Final and this year’s first game at Lower.com Field.

With a 2-1 comeback win over the New York Red Bulls on Tuesday, the Crew gained confidence for the first time since July 30. Miguel Berry has been a hero at home, but Columbus is still looking for a road hero.

With one and a half months to go, New England has the greatest team in Major League Soccer, with the Revs cruising to their first-ever Supporters’ Shield. New England has won 17 games and scored 47 goals, the most in Major League Soccer. Three of those goals have come against the Crew, including a 1-0 win in May and a 2-2 draw in July at Lower.com Field.

Despite their high standing in the standings, the Revs have struggled in recent games with the Crew.

Columbus Crew failed to live up to their expectations after winning their second MLS Cup last season, and have battled to establish a steady run of wins. The Crew, like many other MLS teams before them, were unable to make an impact in the CONCACAF Champions League, and were eliminated in the quarter-finals by four-time champions Monterrey. Caleb Porter’s team has only won back-to-back games once all season, and they approach the final stretch of the season still seeking a playoff place.

The Crew have had a shaky connection with the playoffs, qualifying in three of the previous five seasons, similar to their MLS performance this season. The defending MLS champions will have their job cut out for them if they are to grab points from the New England Revolution. They know that if they can make the move and get back into contention, anything can happen.

Lucas Zelarayan leads the Crew in scoring, and he’ll likely play behind Gyasi Zardes in the Columbus attack.

Morris is one of a handful of Crew players who have been forced to sit out with injuries, including Perry Kitchen, Artur, and Kevin Molino.

Tajon Buchanan’s eighth goal of the season gave the team the victory against New York City FC in their most recent encounter, and the 22-year-old winger is set to make his first start since late August.

Carles Gil, a former Aston Villa midfielder, has the most assists in Major League Soccer, and the 28-year-old might return to the team after an injury layoff.
