Siblings playing football on the biggest of stages
In past years, brothers have played for the same teams or opposite teams, while others have faced one another countless time.
We still have some unique records, including playing against each other at an international competition.
Let us look at a number of the foremost famous brothers in world soccer over the years.
Hazard Eden and Thorgan Hazard
The two brothers are well known because of their success both at the club and national level so far Hazard Eden the older of the two, plays for Spanish giants Real Madrid, he joined in the 2019 transfer window following successful years at Chelsea Fc. Hazard Thorgan plays for Borussia Dortmund of Germany where he has made a name for himself as one of the best creative forwards so far. Both players were at Chelsea Fc together, later the younger Hazard left in search of first-team action and regular football. Both brothers play for the Belgium National team.
Jerome and Kevin-Prince Boateng
We have something interesting with these two brothers; both brothers play for different national teams. Kevin Boateng was featured for the Black Stars of Ghana, while Jerome Boateng has been a strong member of the German national side and faced one another during the 2010 World Cup tournament, which was a first in football history. Both brothers enjoyed success at different levels of their careers even though Jerome has a remarkable collection of trophies that includes the World Cup medal, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup, unlike his brother.
Yaya and Kolo Toure
Nobody can forget these two brothers, Kolo Toure was part of Arsene Wenger’s unbeaten team which won the Premier League in 2003/04 without losing a single game. He later wins another Premier League title at Manchester City, where he played alongside his brother Yaya Toure. Both brothers led Man City to their first Premier League title in 2011/12 which happened in a dramatic way. Kolo Toure later moved to Liverpool Fc in 2013, but Yaya Toure remained a little longer before heading to Olympiacos Greece. Not forgetting that the duo helped Ivory Coast to the Africa Cup of countries in 2015, and overall, there’s little question that they had successful careers.
Rafinha and Thiago Alcantara
Thiago and his brother Rafinha were born to Mazinho, both have World Cup medals with Brazil. Both brothers came through the ranks at Barcelona, at their famous La Masia academy. They turned out to be excellent midfielders, with Thiago opting to feature for Spain while Rafinha chose Brazil. They both brothers are successful in their own ways. Thiago left Spanish giants Barcelona for Bayern in Germany, where he grew into one among the best midfielders in world football and won countless trophies before finally moving to Liverpool in England. Rafinha on the other hand left Spain for France’s top Paris Saint-German.
Gary and Phil Neville
One of the foremost successful of any pair of brothers, the Nevilles brothers were a part of Manchester United’s squad of 92. They played together for a number of seasons, having six Premier League titles together before Phil finally left for another England club Everton in 2005. Gary, on the other hand, remained at the club and retired in 2011, having an amazing total of eight Premier League titles having made 602 appearances. They both brothers got into coaching, later Gary struggled before finally opting to be a pundit.
Taulant and Granit Xhaka
A similar case like the Boateng brothers, the Xhaka brothers, Taullant and Granit picked different countries as their nationalities; Taullant chose Albania as his choice, while Granit picked Switzerland as his own. The brothers became the primary brothers to play against one another during a European tournament when Albania lined up against Switzerland in Lens at Euro 2016 tournament. Both brothers grew at the Basel academy before Granit moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012 and eventually found his way to Arsenal. Taulant, on the other hand, stayed in Basel to enjoy his playing time, and even though his brother is considered better than him, but he has more silverware than the Arsenal man.
Florentin, Mathias and Paul Pogba
Aurgable many people are conversant with Paul Pogba, but few know he has brothers, who look like him, play the gorgeous game. the Manchester United star plays for France, Florentin and his other brother Mathias swore their allegiance to Guinea, their country of birth. Mathias’ career has been more eventful and signed for Slovenian side NK Tabor Sezana, his 12th club early this year.
Florentin, on the other hand, plays for Ligue 2 side Sochaux in France, whom he joined in 2020. Pogba Paul is without a doubt the most successful of the three brothers, who time and again have shown their closeness by hanging out together and even playing games.
Andre and Jordan Ayew
The famous Andrew and Jordan come from a footballing family. Their father, Abedi “Pele” Ayew, was a serious footballer, winning the African Footballer of the Year award three times. He also enjoyed a playing career in England and France, and his two sons took after him in the game of soccer. Both brothers played for the French side Marseille, before moving to England where Andre chose Swansea while his younger brother settled for Aston Villa. Andre then left Swansea for West Ham, before returning to the Welsh club again. Jordan joined Andre at Swansea, before moving to Crystal Palace England, where he still plays.
Rafael and Fabio Da Silva

The notable twins were signed by Alex Ferguson in 2008 from Brazilian side Fluminese. The two enjoyed their time at the Man United with Rafael especially playing a key role, helping United win three Premier League titles during his time at England. They left the Premier League though and headed to France to look for game time.
